Orange Shirt Day
September 30 has been declared as Orange Shirt Day annually, in recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and wellbeing, and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
Mrs. Fellner’s grade 6 class has been learning about Orange Shirt Day and the importance of understanding the life-long effects on First Nations children who attended residential schools. To create awareness of Orange Shirt Day, students chose to design posters to display in the school and community. The students hope their posters serve as a reminder for everyone to show their support for residential school survivors by wearing an orange shirt on September 30th.
